MSRP

The maker's suggested retail price in the US: the list price, before any sale. Useful for seeing how good a deal really is.

What it means

MSRP stands for manufacturer’s suggested retail price. It is the maker’s own US list price for a model. Retailers often sell below it, and makers’ own stores frequently show a “sale” price against it.

For a discontinued model, we use the last list price the maker showed before dropping it, from archived copies of the maker’s site where needed, and say where it came from.

What it changes when buying

MSRP is a reference point. On its own it says little about what you will pay, since many thermals sell below list most of the year. Its value is in comparison:

  • Against the street price. A unit selling well below list may be on clearance, often because a newer model is coming.
  • Between models. List prices show where a maker positions each model in its own range, which can be steadier than shifting sale prices.
  • For used deals. Knowing the list price, and what the unit sold for new, helps you judge a used offer.

What you may see instead of a number

  • Not published for US: the maker does not show a US list price.
  • Not sold through US dealers: the brand does not sell this line through US dealers that we could find.

How we use it on this site

We show MSRP from the maker, with a note on its source. It is not scored; the US price is the figure we compare.
