Tube data sheet
A test sheet for your specific night vision tube, listing its own measured figures. It shows exactly what you are getting instead of a range.
What it means
Every night vision tube is tested at the factory. A data sheet records the results for that one tube, identified by serial number. It usually lists figures such as resolution, signal-to-noise ratio, halo and often the figure of merit they produce.
Why it matters
Most sellers publish specs as ranges, floors such as “1800+”, or typical values. Two tubes sold under the same listing can perform quite differently. A data sheet removes the guessing: you know the measured numbers for the tube in your device.
It also helps when comparing two offers. A cheaper unit with a data sheet showing strong figures may be a better buy than a pricier one with a vague range.
What to look for
- Whether the seller includes the data sheet with the device, or shows it before you buy. Few sellers do as standard.
- That the serial number on the sheet matches the tube.
- The test date and who did the testing. A sheet from the tube maker carries more weight than an unsigned printout.
- Whether figures are close to the advertised range or at its bottom edge.
How we use it on this site
We record whether the maker or seller provides a per-tube data sheet. It is not scored, but it is one of the clearest signs of how much a seller tells you.
